Repeat liposuction-curettage treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis is safe and effective
Bechara FG, Sand M, Tomi NS, Altmeyer P, Hoffmann K. Brit J Dermatol. 2007;157:739-743.
Axillary hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating, is an undesired trait by everyone who suffers from the condition. While surgical curettage via liposuction is an effective and less invasive treatment compared with the more radical surgical option, there are some patients who do not respond to treatment. In this study, researchers examined how effective a second liposuction-curettage treatment was using an “aggressive” rasping cannula in 19 patients who did not respond to the first treatment. The study authors found that most (17 patients) had a 69% reduction in sweating after this second treatment. Only two patients did not respond to treatment. Most patients (84%) were satisfied with their results, and the researchers conclude that a second liposuction-curettage treatment is a effective option for most patients.
