Gluteal Contour Improvement: Different Surgical Alternatives
Cárdenas-Camarena L, Silva-Gavarrete JF, Arenas-Quintana R. Aesthetic Plast Surg. 2011;35:1117-1125.

Today’s women don’t want to be completely fat free. They’re looking to have their curves in just the right places. As a result, buttock enhancement is in demand. To meet this growing demand, the study authors analyzed and describe varying techniques used to create an individualized approach for each buttock augmentation patient. To quantify techniques and patient types, the study looked at 15 years of patient data from buttock enhancement procedures performed on men (n = 46) and women (n = 862) between April 1995 and March 2010 by the lead study author. The majority (89.3%) of patients had liposuction plus lipoinjection; 6.8% of patients had implants plus lipoinjection; 2.4% had liposuction plus implants plus lipoinjection to the hips; .7% had lipo plust implants plus a buttock lift; .6% had liposuction plus lipoinjection and gluteal implants with a buttock-lift. Volume of injected fat and implant size varied. While the majority of patients opt for fat injection, the authors conclude that “Surgery performed with the goal of gluteal contour improvement is detailed and demanding with respect to the multiple and diverse techniques. The proper selection of these procedures and their order are paramount to achieving a successful outcome for both the patient and the surgeon.”
