Submental fat reduction by mesotherapy using phosphatidylcholine alone vs. phosphatidylcholine and organic silicium: a pilot study

Standard treatment for a double chin includes liposuction or the surgical removal of excess skin and fat from the submental (under the chin) region. However, many patients desire less-invasive options that deliver results without the risks of anesthesia and downtime that surgical treatments require. Therefore, the study authors decided to look at the potential benefits of mesotherapy injections using phosphatidylcholine versus phosphatidylcholine plus organic silicium to treat the excess fat and tissue that make up a double chin. Twelve patients assigned to one of the two treatment groups underwent a range of one to five injection events, each spaced two weeks apart, on average. According to study results, patients in both treatment groups achieved a similar reduction in fat under the chin by the third treatment. Patients did not experience any major adverse effects. The study authors conclude that mesotherapy with phosphatidylcholine or phosphatidylcholine and organic silicium are a safe and effective alternative to surgery.
